（1） Absorption method
Absorb naphthalene from gas with washing oil, then distill the naphthalene rich oil, and recycle the washing oil after removing naphthalene. According to the distillation methods of naphthalene rich oil, it can be divided into the following three types:
(1) Side cut method.
Distill the naphthalene rich oil and benzene washing rich oil simultaneously in a distillation tower, and cut the naphthalene fraction from the side line of the tower. This method has low construction investment, but the naphthalene content in the naphthalene fraction is low and the washing oil loss is large.
(2) Two stage distillation method.
Two distillation towers are used for distillation, with naphthalene benzene fraction taken out from the top of the first tower and wash oil taken out from the bottom of the tower. This method is simple to operate and the cut naphthalene fraction contains high naphthalene.
(3) Wash by separate distillation method.
Naphthalene rich oil is not mixed with benzene washing rich oil, but is distilled separately. Distillation adopts the two-stage distillation method in item (2). This method has high construction costs and a large floor area. But the major advantage of this method is that the corrosive components are concentrated in the naphthalene distillation section, which can reduce the material standard of the benzene distillation section.
（2） Cooling method
While cooling the gas, naphthalene is precipitated and flows out together with the cooling water. Tar is mixed into the cooling water to absorb the naphthalene in the water, and then the cooling water is separated by standing still. The water is recycled after being cooled in a cooling rack.
The major advantage of this method is that it does not require distillation units, the construction cost is about half of the previous method, and there is no need to worry about interrupting operations due to corrosion. In the winter when dealing with naphthalene is quite troublesome, due to the low water temperature; The cooling range of gas can be increased, so the efficiency also improves. It can greatly improve maintenance and repair. However, when using a type of cooling water rack to cool the circulating water, it will pollute the environment. If it is a heat exchanger, there is a concern about clogging the pipes, especially as power, which requires several tons of steam per hour, so the operating cost will increase.
（3） Direct oil cooling method
This method is a further development of the B cooling method, which uses tar or heavy oil instead of cooling water to directly spray gas and absorb naphthalene. The tar and heavy oil that absorb naphthalene can be used as fuel oil without any problems, but the naphthalene removal efficiency of this method is lower than that of the previous two methods.
